ChatGPT MCP setup

Add FactIQ to ChatGPT

Connect ChatGPT to FactIQ's MCP server for official economic and financial time series, live market data, and inline charts grounded in sourced data.

Developer mode

ChatGPT must allow custom MCP apps. Workspace admins may need to enable this before the Create button appears.

FactIQ MCP URL

Use the hosted Streamable HTTP endpoint: https://api.factiq.com/mcp.

FactIQ account

ChatGPT will start FactIQ's OAuth sign-in flow. Email, Google, and passkey sign-in all work.

Instructions

Create the connector in ChatGPT

These steps follow OpenAI's current ChatGPT app connector flow: enable developer mode, create a connector, then add it to a new chat from the composer.

Connector URL

https://api.factiq.com/mcp

  1. 1

    Enable developer mode

In ChatGPT, open Settings then Apps & Connectors. Open Advanced settings and toggle developer mode if your workspace allows it.

  2. 2

    Create a connector

Click Create. Name it FactIQ, describe it as official economic and financial data with charts, and paste the MCP URL https://api.factiq.com/mcp.

  3. 3

    Connect your FactIQ account

When ChatGPT validates the server, approve the FactIQ OAuth prompt. The connector uses your FactIQ login; no API key is needed.

  4. 4

    Add FactIQ to a chat

Start a new ChatGPT conversation. Use the composer's plus menu, choose More, then select FactIQ from the available tools.

Try these prompts

  • What's the US unemployment rate, charted over the last 10 years?
  • Compare US and China CPI inflation year-over-year for the last five years.
  • Plot the US 10-year Treasury yield, monthly, since 2020.

What ChatGPT gets

A read-only data connector with chart rendering

Economic data

BLS, BEA, Census, EIA, Treasury, IMF, World Bank, India, China, Singapore, and other official sources.

OAuth scoped

The ChatGPT connection is authenticated through FactIQ and can be disconnected from ChatGPT when you no longer need it.

Notes

Common setup issues

No Create button

Your plan or workspace policy may not allow custom MCP apps yet. Ask a workspace admin to enable developer mode or app creation.

Connection fails

Confirm the connector URL is exactly https://api.factiq.com/mcp. The server is public HTTPS and supports ChatGPT's remote MCP flow.

OAuth gets stuck

Try signing in to FactIQ in the same browser, then recreate the connector. You can also disconnect and reconnect from ChatGPT settings.

Tools missing in chat

Start a fresh conversation and add FactIQ from the composer's plus menu. Connectors are selected per conversation.
